Lancaster Stormers News Release
For everyone involved, Saturday was a long day. For York, it had to be fun. For Lancaster, it was just l-o-o-o-o-ng.
The York Revolution stomped on the Barnstormers in both ends of Saturday's unique doubleheader, taking the noon opener, 8-1, at York's Sovereign Bank Stadium and the nightcap, 12-5, at Clipper Magazine Stadium thanks to an eight-run sixth inning.
Kennard Jones spurred York's offense in the day game. The Revs center fielder doubled and scored in the first inning and launched a two-run homer in the third as York grabbed a 3-0 lead.
Argenis Tavarez singled home a run in the Lancaster fourth inning. George Sandel took over driving in three runs on a pair of singles, and Kenny Perez added a two-run single late in the game.
York used five pitchers in the game. Juan Padilla (1-2), the third of the five, was awarded the win. Erik Dessau (0-3) absorbed the loss.
In the nightcap, the game was tied, 3-3, headed into the sixth inning. Sendy Rleal (6-5), on in relief of Eric Ackerman, retired Perez on a fly to right center to start the inning. Matt Padgett followed with a single up the middle, and Luis Taveras walked. Center fielder Gary Harris temporarily saved the tie, making a running catch in right center before crashing into the fence. Rleal walked Kennard Jones to load the bases. Keoni DeRenne broke the tie with a bloop double to center, driving home two. Chris Ashby scorched a single to center, knocking home two more for a 7-3 lead. Following a walk to Jason Aspito, Matt Esquivel launched a drive to left center. Third base umpire Jim Tatum signaled that the ball was in play, and a relay threw Aspito out at the plate for an apparent 8-3 lead and end of the inning. York manager Chris Hoiles came out to argue that the ball had cleared the wall, and the play was overturned, crediting Esquivel with a home run. Padgett added another RBI single later in the inning.
Dave Gil (5-6) worked six innings for the win, allowing seven hits and three runs, two earned. Lloyd Turner homered late in the game for Lancaster.
