
Spirit battle Spitfires, falling short 3-4

(Saginaw, MI) The Saginaw Spirit lost a close battle to the Windsor Spitfires 4-3 Saturday night, moving their record to 1-1 with 2 points for the season.
The Spirit opened the game with a goal, as defenseman T.J. Brodie and goalie Edward Pasquale fed the puck to winger Jason McDonough, who knocked it in at 3:41 in the first period. Brodie contributed his efforts toward another goal, receiving assists from centers Barry Sanderson and Tyler Murovich to notch a powerplay goal at 17:06 in the first period. Defenseman Ryan Ellis scored for the Spitfires at the end of the first period with a powerplay goal at 19:12. Assists came from wingers Taylor Hall and Greg Nemisz.
Nemisz notched a powerplay goal for the Spitfires at 6:39 of the second period, moving the score to a tie, 2-2. Wingers Taylor Hall and Austin Watson assisted on the play. The Spirit answered back as winger Jordan Szwarz made a quick pass to winger Chris Chappell who found the net at 15:50 in the second period. Shortly after, Spitfire winger Taylor Hall scored a goal at 17:30, with assists credited to center Andrew Yogan and winger Austin Watson. The period ended in a tie, 3-3.
Windsor pulled ahead at end of the third period with a goal from winger Justin Shugg at 16:03. Assists came from wingers Jacob Lalonde and James Woodcroft, putting Windsor ahead with a final score of 3-4.
Spirit netminder Edward Pasquale earned 34 saves for the game and Spitfires goalie Andrew Engelage finished with 22 saves.

The Spirit will be on the road for the next game, traveling to Sarnia to take on the Sting. The puck drops at 7 PM on Friday, September 26 at the Sarnia Sports and Entertainment Centre. The team will return to the Dow Event Center on Saturday, October 4 to take on the Sudbury Wolves at 7:11 PM.
