PLYMOUTH, MI - Anthony Luciani scored two third-period goals on penalty shots to help carry the Erie Otters to a 6-1 win over the Plymouth Whalers in an Ontario Hockey League game played tonight at the Compuware Sports Arena.
Shawn Szydlowski also scored twice for the Otters while Ryan O'Reilly collected a goal and two assists. Brandon Biggers rounded out the Erie scoring with his first as a member of the Otters.
Joe Gaynor scored the lone Whalers goal.
Erie improved to 1-1 on the season while Plymouth dropped to 0-2. The Otters led 1-0 after one and 4-1 after two.
Jaroslav Janus started and turned aside 36 shots for the victory. Erie out shot the Whalers 41-37 in the game.
The three stars of the game were. 1. O'Reilly; 2. Szydlowski and 3. Gaynor.
The Otters wrap up a season-opening three-game road trip Friday night when they head to Guelph to meet the Storm in a 7:30 p.m. contest. The game can be heard live on FOX Sports Radio AM 1330 The FAN and on-line at www.ottershockey.com (presented by the James H. Cross Company) beginning with the pre-game show at 7:15 p.m.
The Otters 2008-09 Home Opener will be played this Saturday (September 27th) when the defending OHL Champion Kitchener Rangers visit the Tullio Arena for a 7 p.m. start presented by Taco Bell.
