MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - The Minnesota Lynx today announced a partnership with Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey and Scott Counties and the Minnesota Department of Human Services to host Foster Family Day on Friday, Sept. 12, when the Lynx close out their regular season home schedule against the defending WNBA champion Phoenix Mercury.

The Lynx will welcome more than 1,500 foster children and families to watch Seimone Augustus and her Lynx teammates finish out their most successful season in four years. All foster families in attendance will receive a welcome message on the scoreboard. They will also be invited down to the floor to participate in an on-court celebration recognizing the work of foster families who help children in crisis and families in transition.

The Foster Care System is designed to enable children to remain in their communities and close to siblings, other family members and friends. Foster care enables most families to stay together because children are removed from their homes for only a short time until birth families reunite with their children. In 2007, approximately 72 percent of children who left out-of-home placement reunited with their birth parents, other relatives or primary caregivers. More than 7 percent moved in with another relative through transfer of permanent legal custody. In 2007, foster parents provided temporary care to more than 10,200 children in family foster care in Minnesota.
