Tri-City Dust Devils News Release
The Tri-City Dust Devils' season came to an end Wednesday night in front of 3,022 enthusiastic fans at Gesa Stadium. In a perfect world, the home team would always win their season finale, but such was not the case Wednesday. Although the Dust Devils dropped the contest 6-2 to the Yakima Bears, it seemed like everyone had a good time, with post-game fireworks presented by Envision Homes and the establishment of a new single-season attendance record of 82,021, or 2,158 per game.
In a game that moved at an unusually brisk pace, the Bears took control with a run in the fourth and four more in the fifth. The Dust Devils got on the board as Scott Robinson led off the fifth with a home run, his sixth of the season. Yakima wasted little time in responding, however, as Justin Parker created a run in the sixth by striking out and reaching base on a wild pitch, stealing second and third, and scoring on a Jhoan Pimentel single.
Tri-City's Charlie Blackmon extended his hitting streak to 22 games with a double in the sixth inning, his 21st of the year.
The Dust Devils finished the season 36-40, good for third in the Northwest League East Division, while Yakima finished 28-48. Bears starter Ryan Cook (2-2) earned the win after giving up just one run on two hits in six innings pitched. Tri-City starter Juan Nicasio (2-4) took the loss with five runs allowed (four earned) in five innings of work.
Earlier Wednesday, the Dust Devils and the Colorado Rockies announced a two year extension of their player development contract. The Dust Devils (and future Colorado Rockies) will be back at Gesa Stadium in June of 2009. In the meantime, fans can order ticket packages for next season at the stadium box office or by calling (509) 544-8789.
