Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
Right-hander Chris Nicoll was placed on the 7-day Disabled List Friday morning. Nicoll was removed from last night's game against the Arkansas Travelers after experiencing shoulder discomfort.
Nicoll, the 24-year old resident of Santa Monica, CA, had appeared in 19 games for the Naturals this season, posting a 4-1 record and a 3.09 ERA with three saves. He was the winning pitcher in last night's 8-2 win over the Travelers. In 43 2/3 innings with the Naturals, Nicoll has fanned 55 batters while issuing just eight walks. He was a third round pick of the Kansas City Royals in 2005.
To fill Nicoll's spot on the roster, right-hander Greg Atencio returned to the club from Triple-A Omaha. Atencio, the 27-year old Albuquerque, NM resident, posted a 3-3 record with a 3.78 ERA and three saves in 26 appearances. Atencio has also made two separate stints with Omaha this year, where he was 1-1 with a 3.24 ERA and one save in nine appearances.
Atencio will wear #40, the same number he wore earlier this season. The Naturals roster continues to stand at the Texas League limit of 24 active players.
