Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

FRISCO, Texas - What a difference a day makes.

Wednesday, Corpus Christi blew a six-run lead in the eighth and lost to Frisco. Thursday, the eighth inning belonged to the Hooks, who rallied for five runs and then held on in the ninth to defeat the RoughRiders 6-4.

Center fielder Jarred Ball started the rally with a one-out single off reliever Beau Jones. Andrew Laughter came in for Jones, and Ball promptly stole second base. Laughter walked Eli Iorg, putting runners at first and second for Ole Sheldon, who singled up the middle to plate Ball, tying the score at 2-2.

Billy Hart picked a good time for his first triple of the year. He pounded an 0-1 pitch into the gap in right-center and arrived at third base standing up, clearing the bases for a 4-2 Corpus Christi lead.

Mitch Einertson walked and stole second. Laughter (2-3) struck out Rob Cosby for the second out in the frame, but needed 10 pitches to get the out. Lou Santangelo followed with a single to center to get Hart and Einertson home for a 6-2 bulge.

The RoughRiders made things uncomfortable for the Hooks in the ninth. Emerson Frostad and Julio Borbon provided two-out, RBI singles to bring the home team to within two at 6-4. Chris Blazek, who entered to begin the ninth, struck out Elvis Andrus looking to end the game.

Santangelo, who knocked in Corpus Christi's first run with a single in the fifth, led the offense with a 2-for-4 night that included three RBI's. Hart, Einertson, Ball and Cosby each had two hits for the Hooks, who have taken two of three in the series and improved to 15-16 on the year against the first-place RoughRiders.

Sheldon's game-tying hit in the eighth gives him hits in five straight, with 11 RBI's in those five games.

Paul Estrada (2-0) worked a 1-2-3 seventh to pick up the win. Starter Chance Douglass turned in his third consecutive strong performance, but took a no-decision. Douglass allowed two runs on eight hits and two walks over six innings while striking out four.

The four-game series wraps up Friday night at 7:00. Lefty Andy Van Hekken (5-3) battles Frisco's Neftali Feliz (4-2).
