Everett Silvertips News Release

Jeff Regier Continues to Mature

Not very many seventeen year olds around the WHL can be classified as "veterans", but that is exactly the type of role Jeff Regier looks to provide for the Silvertips in 2008-09. Already having suited up in parts of two seasons, including six playoff games for Everett, Regier looks to use his intelligence, calm demeanor and locker room respect to provide the added experience to a youthful and energetic Silvertips team this season.

As the youngest Silvertip through much of last season, Regier points to the terrific cohesion among the players that helped pave the way for his Major Junior career.

"It helped already being here the previous year. I already knew a bunch of the guys, and they were all really great to me last year, despite being a younger guy."

Camaraderie is a somewhat vague and abstract concept, and Regier is looking for something slightly more concrete this year - goals, assists, hits, and blocked shots. As last season progressed his on-ice production picked up, a trend that he looks to continue in 2008-09.

"Coming in, you're young, right? You've gotta learn, and it was a huge learning year for me. It could've been rough at times, but all in all it was a great year and I really learned a lot from it. I improved a lot of my skills. Being on the ice every day - practices, games, game day skates - it's a lot more ice, a lot more intensity, and a lot higher hockey. You really improve everything."

A challenging aspect of establishing his presence on the Everett blue line is trying to play the style of hockey he always had played growing up, and transferring it to the more experienced, fiercer and quicker WHL. Playing in the world's top developmental league, Regier has raised his game while learning how important every single shift is.

"[In Midget hockey], it was like you're one of the go-to guys. Coming into the WHL, it's a really big eye opener for you. You can't take a shift off - you're going hard all the time. There's no time to take a break. That way it was a little different. I didn't carry the same type of role that I had taken in previous teams in the past. Now I come in, I work my way up, and do the best I can."
