(Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, BC) - The Vancouver Canadians picked up their 7th win in their past 10 games with a 6-5 victory over the Boise Hawks Monday night. With the win, the Canadians move to within six games of first place in the NWL West division with 16 games remaining on the 2008 schedule.

Canadians RHP Shawn Haviland bounced back from his worst outing of the season to his best striking out 10 Boise Hawks hitters over his four innings of work Monday. Haviland's only struggles came in the top of the 5th inning when the right hander gave up a single to 2B Marwin Gonzalez before walking both CF Kurt Calvert and LF Drew Rundle leaving the game with no outs and the bases loaded. LHP Ben Hornbeck came in for Haviland and struggled. After getting 3B Josh Vitters to fly out to second, Hornbeck walked in the first run of the game as SS Ryan Flaherty walked on four pitched, and then watched as Hornbeck hit 1B Ryan Keedy to produce the second run. DH Sean Hoolerbeke hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring LF Drew Rundle making it 3-0 Boise.

The Canadians managed to close the gap in the home half of the 5th inning when 3B Rodney Rutherford singled; C Juan Nunez drew a walk before LF J.D. Pruitt advanced both runners with a sacrifice bunt. Rutherford then scored on a wild pitch from Hawks reliever LHP Luke Sommer; Nunez scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of 2B Marcos Luis closing the gap to 3-2 Hawks.

Vancouver gave up a run in the top of the 6th inning when LF Drew Rundle hit his 14th double of the season scoring CF Kurt Calvert extending Boise's lead to 4-2.

1B Dusty Napoleon got the Nat Bailey Stadium faithful out of their seats in the bottom of the 6th when he hit a towering two-run home run over the right field wall off of LHP Luke Sommer to tie the game at 4-4.

The Hawks continued to scrap as RF Kyler Burke hit into a double play off of Canadians reliever LHP Brad Hertzler but scored SS Ryan Flaherty to give the Hawks a 5-4 lead.

Vancouver scored tow in the bottom of the 7th inning when CF David Thomas grounded into a fielder's choice scoring pinch runner Jareck West. RF Jeremy Barfield then hit a groundball out to Boise SS Ryan Flarehty who committed a throwing error allowing JD Pruitt to score from third giving the C's a 6-5 lead.

Canadians closer RHP Jose Guzman came in to pick up his 13th save of the season striking out Ryan Keedy, Ryan Flarehty and Kyler Burke for the Canadians 27th win of the season. With the win, the Canadians move to within six games of 1st in the NWL West Division. Vancouver will wrap up this five-game series vs. Boise Tuesday afternoon at Nat Bailey Stadium with a 1:05pm start. The C's will send RHP Ronny Morla (1-4 4.78) vs. RHP Chris Carpenter (3-0 5.63).
