August 9, 2008 - International League (IL1)
Indianapolis Indians News Release
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Center fielder Jason Pridie lifted a two-run triple to center field in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Rochester a 6-5 come from behind victory over Indianapolis on Saturday night at Frontier Field.
The Red Wings improve to 60-63 on the season and 37-23 at home, while the Indians fall to 56-66 overall and 26-34 on the road. Rochester has now won six in-a-row overall and seven straight at home.
Pridie's triple capped a wild final three innings that included a combined nine runs on 12 hits.
After surrendering four runs in the seventh and eighth innings, Rochester battled back with four over the final two frames.
DH Alejandro Machado started the late inning rally for the Red Wings with a lead off walk in the eighth, before RF Howie Clark blasted a two-run long ball to even the score at 4-4.
After Indianapolis retook the lead in the top of the ninth, 2B Trevor Plouffe and SS Sergio Santos then roped back-to-back singles before Pridie came through with the clutch walk-off three-bagger.
Pridie also jump started the Red Wings offense in first inning, walking to lead-off the game and eventually coming around to score on a single by Clark.
Rochester RHP Mariano Gomez (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 SO) picked up the win in relief to improve to 4-2 on the season.
The Red Wings offensive attack came from the top of their order as the 1-3 hitters all turned in multi-hit games. Pridie (2-for-4, 1 R, 2 RBI), Machado (2-for-3, 2 R) and Clark (2-for-3, 1 R, 3 RBI) also accounted for four of the six runs and five of the six RBI for Rochester.
Indianapolis jumped onto the scoreboard with two runs in the seventh on a solo home run by DH Ryan Mulhern and an RBI double by LF Nyjer Morgan. The Tribe then took their first lead of the game in the eighth inning when a single by 3B Neil Walker and doubles by C Ronny Paulino and 1B Jason Delaney gave them a two-run advantage.
Before Pridie stole the show for the Red Wings, Indians 2B Luis Ordaz provided what looked to be to the game-winning hit for the Indians, when he belted a solo home run to left field in the top of the ninth.
In his best outing out of the bullpen this season, Indianapolis RHP John Van Benschoten (2.0 IP) shut down the Red Wings with two perfect innings of relief.
Morgan (2-for-3, 1 RBI), Ordaz (2-for-5, 1 R, 1 RBI), Paulino (2-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI) and Mulhern (2-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI) all collected multiple hits for the Tribe.
Indians RHP Jesse Chavez (0.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 0 SO) took the loss to drop to 1-4 on the season.
Neither starter -- Indianapolis Jimmy Barthmaier (5.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 SO) or Rochester RHP Anthony Swarzak (7.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 SO) -- figured in the decision.
The teams continue their four-game series on Sunday at 1:35 p.m. RHP Danny Graves is scheduled to start for Rochester, while LHP Tom Gorzelanny is expected to get the nod for Indianapolis.
The contest will be carried by WXLW-950 AM and www.IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley. The pre-game show begins at 1:15 p.m.
