
'Bums blanked for second straight night

TRAVERSE CITY, MI ¡V The Traverse City Beach Bums were shutout by the Florence Freedom for the second straight night at Wuerfel Park, dropping a 4-0 decision on Tuesday.
Angel Molina gave Florence an early 1-0 lead by homering off the scoreboard in the left-center to lead off the second inning. Molina won the Homerun Derby at Wuerfel Park last week as part of the Frontier League All-Star Game festivities.
The homer was the lone run that Weston Curles allowed in his third start for Traverse City. Curles worked 6.2 innings and allowed only five hits while walking one and striking out four. The walk was intentional. Curles was tabbed as the Beach Bums Player of the Game.
The lead stayed at 1-0 until the top of the ninth when Florence scored three runs off of a pair of Beach Bums relievers. Garth McKinney drove in a run with a double which was hit third hit of the game, and Kelly Hunt drove in two with his first triple.
Traverse City mustered only six hits, two of which came off the bat of Patrick Perry. Mike Epping, Jake Whitesides, Zack Kalter, and Jeff Brown also added hits.
The Beach Bums (31-25) will conclude the series with Florence tomorrow night in a 7:05 pm game. RHP David Nathanson (9-2, 2.10) will make the start for the Beach Bums while Florence counters with RHP Andy Clark (4-1, 3.77).
