July 22, 2008 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Guelph Storm News Release

The Guelph Storm are pleased to announce that former two-time Storm Captain Chris Hajt has been hired as the new lead Assistant Coach. Hajt will assume the role vacated by Jason Brooks, who was named Head Coach of the team last week.

Hajt is no stranger to Guelph playing four seasons with the Storm beginning in 1994. He captained the team in 96-97 and 97-98 and was named the team's MVP and Top Defenceman two years in a row. Originally from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Hajt made two trips to the Memorial Cup with the Storm and won a Silver medal at the 1997 World Junior Championships in Switzerland. He was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2nd round (32nd overall) of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft and played a total of six games in the NHL, one with the Oilers and five with the Washington Capitals.

"I am honoured and proud to be named Assistant Coach of the Guelph Storm", Hajt offered. "It is a privilege to be able to come back to Guelph and be part of such a respected organization with great people. I am really looking forward to getting it all started at training camp."

Last season Hajt played in Italy for the Balzano HC, the final stop of a ten-season professional career spent mainly in the American Hockey League. A Guelph resident, this coaching opportunity will be his first position behind the bench.

"I am very excited to have Chris on board", Jason Brooks said. "He brings a wealth of experience playing in both the American Hockey League and in Europe that can be passed along to our players. His passion for the Storm showed as a player and will as a coach."

Hajt will make his coaching debut against the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds at the Storm home opener on Friday, September 19th.
