Tri-City Americans News Release
KENNEWICK, WA - Tri-City Americans General Manager Bob Tory announced today that the team has signed 2008 first round bantam draft pick Zach Yuen (pro. You-n) to a standard WHL Players Contract. Yuen, 15, was the club's first-round selection (22nd overall) in this year's WHL Bantam Draft back on May 1st.
Last season, the 6'0, 205 pound defenseman played in 52 games for the North Shore Winterhawks AAA Bantam club, where he registered 12 goals, 46 points and 108 penalty minutes. Yuen also took home the Most Valuable Defenseman award at the Burnaby Minor Tournament back in December.
"Zach is a skilled d-man who likes to rush the puck. He is a very good skater with good puck skills and plays a physical game," explained Tory. "We are pleased that Zach and his family have chosen the WHL and the Tri-City Americans as his preferred path for career development."
Yuen will attend the Americans' rookie camp this fall and participate in both the Everett and Tri-City pre-season tournaments. He will be named as an affiliate player for the 2008-09 season and will see action as needed throughout the season.
The Americans' rookie camp will start on Wednesday, August 20th and conclude on Saturday, August 23rd with the annual Todd Klassen Memorial Classic. Main camp will then kick-off on Sunday, August 24th.
