Frederick Keys News Release

Frederick, MD - Frederick Keys right-handed starter Jake Arrieta will pitch for Team USA in the 2008 Futures Game at Yankee Stadium on July 13th. So far this season for the Keys, Arrieta is sporting a 5-3 record with a 2.88 ERA. He is currently ranked second in the Carolina League in strikeouts, with 85 K's in 84.1 innings of work.

The Baltimore Orioles selected Arrieta in the fifth round of the 2007 draft. He previously pitched at Texas Christian University. In his first season at TCU, Arrieta leaped onto the prospect map by posting 14-4 record with a 2.35 ERA. That summer, he pitched for the USA Baseball National Team. While on the Red, White and Blue Tour, Arrieta raised some eyebrows by dominating the international competition. In six starts, the young Texan went 4-0 with a 0.27 ERA. He allowed just one earned run in 35 innings of work.

In 2008, Arrieta has been one of the top pitchers in the O's organization. Earlier this season, he was the starting pitcher for the Carolina vs. California League All-Star game in Myrtle Beach. In the game, Arrieta allowed no runs on no hits in his one inning of work. He earned Bank of America Pitcher of the Game honors for his effort.

The 2008 Futures Game will take place at Yankee Stadium on July 13th. The game pits American-born players against minor league prospects from around the world. This season, the United States team was taken from the pool of players selected by USA Baseball for the 2008 Summer Olympics. In addition, the game will be nine innings in length. In past years the game has only been seven innings.

Arrieta is scheduled to start for Frederick on Sunday, as the Keys open a three-game series at home against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.

The Frederick Keys are the Advanced-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, and are the reigning Carolina League champions. For information regarding season ticket or group plans for the 2008 season contact the Keys at 301-815-9900.
