TONIGHT: The Potomac Nationals and Myrtle Beach Pelicans meet in game two of a three-game series...The P-Nats knocked off the Pelicans 5-2, scoring all of their runs in the final three innings....Potomac‘s lead over second-place Frederick and Lynchburg in the Carolina League Northern Division is 3.0 games.

TONIGHT: The Potomac Nationals send right-hander Jhonny Nunez to the mound trying to earn his second straight victory...The 22-year-old picked up his first win of the season in his last start against Winston-Salem on June 18 going six innings and allowing just one run on four hits...It was his second consecutive quality start after limiting the Frederick Keys to three runs in six innings in his previous outing...The win of Nunez's first since August 6 last season when he allowed two unearned runs in five frames against the Greenville Drive...The former Dodger farmhand has solid control striking 63 and walking only 13 in 63 2/3 innings...He has struggled a bit from Pfitzner Stadium, positing a 6.21 ERA in nine outings on the road while having a 3.81 ERA in six starts at home...All seven of the home runs he has allowed have come away from the Pfitz...Last season with Hagerstown, Nunez preformed well after the All-Star break going 3-1 with a 3.86 ERA in 10 appearances...Prior to that, he was just 1-5 with a 4.20 ERA.

VIEW FROM THE TOP: Today marks the 79th consecutive day the P-Nats have been in or had a share of the division lead since moving to the top spot on April 10...Last season the Nationals spent 31 consecutive days in first from April 5 through May 5...The P-Nats ended the first half in last place, 10 games under .500 and only saw first place for one day, June 21, after May 5.

TIED AT THE TOP: With last night's 5-2 win over Myrtle Beach, the Potomac Nationals evened the Pelicans for the best overall record in the Carolina League at 48-29...The P-Nats improved their record to 7-4 against the Birds and are the only team in the league with a winning record against the first half Southern Division champs...Potomac is now a season-best 19 games above .500 and a league-best 6-1 in the second half of the season.

DAVIS DOMINATES: Leonard Davis has hits in seven straight games after knocking a RBI single in his final at-bat last night...Over the past seven games, the former eighth-round pick in 2003 is 11-for-23 (.500) with two doubles, two home runs, five RBI, seven runs scored and three walks...Even though he missed the first month of the season with a wrist injury, the 24-year-old ranks third in the Carolina League in batting average (.341), second in home runs (13), fourth in on-base percentage (.416) and first in slugging percentage (.620)...He is hitting a robust .443 with five home runs and 15 RBI in 24 games this month.

MARTINEZ MAKES HIS MARK: Infielder Michael Martinez, who was just 1-for-his-last-19 (.053) entering his third at-bat last night, keyed a seventh-inning rally with a single to left field and finished the night 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored...An important piece of the line up, he was inserted as the leadoff man for Potomac on May 14 against Myrtle Beach and the club is 26-13 (.667) since.

ALL-STAR STUDS: Edgardo Baez was named the MVP of the California-Carolina League All-Star Game on Tuesday night at BB&T Coastal Field in Myrtle Beach...The 22-year-old took a first pitch fastball from San Jose left-hander Jesse English and lined it over the right-center field fence to break a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning...Baez, who walked in his previous at-bat, joins teammate Bill Rhinehart as an All-Star Game MVP after the infielder went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in the South Atlantic League All-Star Game on June 16.

IN SEARCH OF A FEW GOOD MEN: With the promotions of right-hander Craig Stammen and lefty Jack Spradlin last Saturday, the Potomac Nationals have only 23 active members of the 25-man roster...The P-Nats currently have 12 position players and 11 pitchers...Chris Marrero became the first Nationals player placed on the disabled list on June 20 after breaking his foot while sliding into home plate the day before in Winston-Salem.
