Frederick Keys News Release

The Frederick Keys put up a ten-spot on the Kinston Indians last night at Harry Grove stadium ... tonight, the K-Tribe returned the favor. Kinston hitters blasted four homeruns, including two from Cleveland Indians prospect Beau Mills, to blow-out Frederick 10-1.

Kinston scored early and often in this one. In the top half of the first, with one man down, Keys starter Jake Renshaw walked the bases loaded. Niuman Romero hit an RBI-single to give the K-Tribe their first lead of the ball game, 1-0. Jason Denham followed that up with a 2-run single, extending Kinston's lead to three. With runners on the corners, Denham broke for second. On the throw Romero headed home and slid in safely. The double-steal worked and gave the Indians a 4-0 first inning lead.

Renshaw would leave the game after the first with a stomach ailment. He allowed four runs, all earned on just two hits. He walked three and struck out one batter.

Kyle Schmidt came in for Frederick to pitch the second. With one man out, Johnny Drennan singled. Mills followed that up with a single of his own to put runners on first and third with one out. Schmidt threw a wild pitch, allowing Drennan to score, and giving Kinston a 5-0 lead.

Frederick got its one run in the bottom of the third. Paul Winterling led the inning off with a walk. He scored on a two-out Ryan McCarthy double to left to make it a 5-1 ball game.

The Indians piled on the runs after that. In the fourth, Mills hit a two-run homerun. Two batters later, Carlos Rivero hit a solo bomb to left, to extend Kinston's lead to seven.

The K-Tribe would score two more times, both on homeruns. Mills hit his second homerun of the ball game in the eighth, and Jerad Head went yard in the ninth to make the final score 10-1.

In his first Carolina League appearance, Vinnie Pestano got the win. He threw two scoreless innings and struck out two. Renshaw got the loss, dropping his record to 7-7.
