Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY- The first place Mississippi Braves (5-1) capped off an impressive road series, taking their fifth game in six tries from the last place Montgomery Biscuits (1-5) on Sunday afternoon at Riverwalk Stadium.
The pitching problems continued for the Biscuits when starter Jake McGee left the game after just two innings with soreness in his left elbow. McGee gave up two runs on one hit and walked three.
Kevin Lynn picked up where McGee left off and had control problems as well. Lynn gave up an RBI single in the 3rd inning to Greg Creek and then allowed two more runs on a double from JC Holt in the fourth. Holt plated Jordan Schafer and Javier Guzman. Guzman had a two run hit of his own, when he singled in the second inning, after McGee had walked the bases loaded.
Depsite four scoreless innings turned in from veteran relievers Mike Prochaska and Jason Cromer, the Biscuits offense never looked comfortable against the Braves pitching staff.
James Parr started the game for Mississippi and hurled seven innings of one run ball. Parr allowed five hits, walked two and struck out two. One of the five hits was a solo home run from Sergio Pedroza with two outs in the second inning. It was Pedroza's second long ball in as many days and one of only two Biscuits runs in the game.
Chris Nowak scored the other run for Montgomery after doubling off of reliever Nelson Payano in the eighth. John Jaso drove in Nowak with a two out RBI single, but that's all of the offense the Biscuits would muster against Payano in two innings of work.
Mississippi added an insurance run in the top of the ninth, icing the game 6-2 and dominating the series, five games to one.
The Biscuits take Monday off and then head to Mobile for another six game set. Montgomery will send right hander Wade Davis to the mound to take on fellow righty Brooks Brown. Hank Aaron Stadium will host the series, with game one set to begin at 7:05 CST.
