Braves rally for win in extras

Richmond, VA - The Richmond Braves beat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees 5-4 in 13 innings Thursday at The Diamond. The Braves took their first lead of the night in the last of the 13th after falling behind in the top half.

The Yankees grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run single by Matt Carson. The Braves cut the lead in half in the third when Wes Timmons chased a run home with a single. Nick Green doubled a run home in the seventh to push the Yankees lead to 3-1. The Braves tied the game in the home half on a towering home run by Sal Fasano. Each club mounted threats over the next five innings but failed to score. In the top of the 13th Brett Gardner drew a bases loaded walk to put the Yankees back in front 4-3. In the home half Clint Sammons sacrifice fly tied the game after Richmond loaded the bases with no outs. Scott Thorman's pinch-hit infield single produced the winning run.

Chris Resop picked up the win. Steven White took the loss. Barbaro Canizares had three hits for the Braves. Green, Bernie Castro, and Justin Christian had two hits each for the Yankees.
