Dayton Dragons News Release
Dayton, Ohio-The Dayton Dragons announced the following roster changes today:
Pitchers Enerio Del Rosario and Philippe Valiquette and outfielder Daniel Perales have been promoted from Dayton to Sarasota of the Florida State League.
Outfielder Anthony Gressick has been assigned to Dayton from Sarasota. Pitchers Juan Rafael and Steve Otterness have been promoted to Dayton from the Cincinnati Reds extended spring training camp in Sarasota.
Del Rosario was 2-2 with a 1.59 earned run average and four saves in 14 games (six starts) with the Dragons this season. He ranked fourth in the Midwest League in ERA at the time of his promotion.
Valiquette had appeared in 16 games out of the Dayton bullpen and was 0-1 with a 3.12 ERA.
Perales had appeared in 11 games, batting .231 with one home run and six runs batted in.
Of the three new players joining the Dragons, Gressick is the only one with previous experience in Dayton. He was a pitcher with the Dragons in 2007, going 5-8 with a 4.30 ERA before being converted to the outfield prior to this season. Gressick played college baseball at Ohio University as an outfielder/pitcher and was named the school's Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2006. Gressick finished his career at OU ranked third on the school's all-time career home run list. He was a two-time American Baseball Coaches Association All-American at Ohio and enjoyed his best season in 2004 as a sophomore when he batted .377 with 16 home runs and 45 runs batted in. Gressick was a first-team All-Mid American Conference selection in 2004, '05, and â06 as a designated hitter.
Gressick is a native of Lancaster, Ohio and played at William V. Fisher Catholic High School. This season, he went 1 for 15 as a hitter at Sarasota of the Florida State League.
Rafael split last season between the Gulf Coast League Reds and Sarasota. He pitched in 15 games, going a combined 2-4 with a 2.43 ERA. He has spent most of this season in extended spring training but made one relief appearance at Sarasota.
Otterness was the Reds 29th round draft pick in 2007 out of Embry-Riddle University where he majored in Aeronautical Science. Otterness has made four relief appearances at Sarasota this season without allowing a run.
The Dragons roster remains at the Midwest League limit of 25 players.
