Springdale, AR- The Northwest Arkansas Naturals put their five game home winning streak on the line Sunday in a briskly paced pitcher's duel. The Naturals managed to come out ahead, shutting out the Tulsa Drillers 1-0 in front of a crowd of 5,458 at Arvest Ballpark.
On the mound for the Naturals was right-hander Blake Johnson (2-2), who had his best outing of the season. He tossed six shutout innings, giving up six hits while punching out a season-high seven batters and walking none. Roman Colon picked up his first save of the season, throwing the final three innings of scoreless ball.
The Naturals (14-16) provided the only run of the game in the fourth, when Jose Duarte led off with a double to left. Angel Sanchez grounded out advancing Duarte to third. Juan Richardson then hit an RBI single to give the Naturals a 1-0 lead.
Tulsa's starter Tomas Santiago (1-2) was the hard luck loser, pitching seven innings, only giving up one run on three hits, striking out four and walking three.
The Drillers (11-19) out hit the Naturals 8-4, but left eight men on base. They managed to get only one runner to third in the eighth inning on a wild pitch.
The Naturals and Drillers will play game three of the four-game series on Monday at 7:00. Monday night is Monday Night Lights, presented by Ozarks Electric Cooperative Corporation, Sam98, Y94, and the Morning News.
