Aerodynamics...

Let's Play Two...The Aeros and Baysox split a quasi-doubleheader last night, with Akron taking game one 7-3 and falling in game two 3-1. The first game was actually the conclusion of a game that originally began April 20th but was suspended because of rain in the top of the third inning, while the nightcap was a seven-inning affair which served as the official start of this three-game series.

One for the Money...Akron LHP David Huff was phenomenal in game one yesterday, entering in the bottom of the third (on normal rest) and proceeding to save the bullpen by working the final seven innings for his first victory of the year. Huff retired the first 12 hitters he faced before allowing a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh, and also tied a career-high with eight strikeouts. He allowed only one walk and held Bowie to just two runs and five hits. The native of Huntington Beach, CA also turned in one of the longest performances of the season by an Aeros pitcher; only left-hander Ryan Edell's eight-inning performance April 23rd in Altoona was longer.

Two for the Show...Runs were at a premium in game two, as the Aeros mustered only a run while tying a season-low with just three hits. RHP J.D. Martin made his first start in almost 12 months and held Bowie to a run on four hits over three innings, but the Baysox got to reliever Shawn Nottingham for the two winning runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Streaking No More...Aeros CF Jose Constanza had his eight-game hitting streak snapped last night, flying out in all three at-bats in the loss. Constanza hit .447 (17-38) from April 23rd to May 1st, raising his average 135 points from .115 to .250 in the process. Included in his eight-game run were six multi-hit efforts, including a trio of three-hit performances. Constanza also showed some pop in his 5'7" frame, knocking four doubles and two triples and driving in seven runs. He also scored five runs and stole four bases in five attempts. The native of Santo Domingo, DR collected almost 71% of his hits for the entire season over those eight games (17 hits during the streak, 24 total hits on the year).

Aubrey's Debut...Michael Aubrey had his name penciled into the lineup while he was still on the airplane to Class AAA Buffalo, and joined the Bisons in time for their game against the visiting Charlotte Knights. Although the Bisons fell by a final of 10-3 Aubrey made an immediate impact, stroking a two-run double to left field in his second at-bat. Aubrey finished 1-4 in the cleanup spot for Buffalo manager Torey Lovullo and started the game at first base, with Ryan Mulhern moving to the designated hitter role and Jordan Brown getting the night off.
