Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

LANSING, MI -- Joe Dunigan provided the offense with three hits -- two doubles and a homer -- and two RBI. Then, the pitching tandem of Donnie Hume and Phillippe Aumont combined to lead the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to a 5-2 win over the Lansing Lugnuts Friday night at Oldsmobile Park. The win ended Wisconsin's eight game losing streak to the Lugnuts

The Rattlers (9-15) took a lead in the second inning. Joe White walked with one out. Ron Garth doubled and that put runners at second and third.

Juan Diaz was next and he sent a fly ball to medium right. White tagged and ran right through the stop sign put up by Rattler manager Terry Pollreisz as the third base coach. White would score without a play as the ball slipped out of right fielder Moises Sierra's hand as he threw to the plate. Dunigan followed with an RBI double and the Rattlers were up 2-0.

An RBI double by Edilio Colina in the third inning did two things. It gave the Rattlers a 3-0 lead and extended his hitting streak to 12 games.

Lansing (15-12) got a run off Hume, the Wisconsin starting pitcher, in the bottom of the fourth. John Tolisano doubled in a run with two outs, but was thrown out trying to stretch his hit into a triple.

Calvin Beamon gave the Rattlers a three-run cushion back with an RBI single in the top of the fifth.

Hume got into the sixth inning, but could not get out without help. Kevin Ahrens doubled, Darin Mastroianni walked, and Matt Liuzza doubled. Ahrens scored on the play and Mastroianni took third. That was when Travis Mortimore relieved Hume.

On a pitch to Tolisano, the ball sailed past Rattler catcher Korey Feiner. Mastroianni broke for the plate, but the ball caromed off the backstop right to Feiner. Mastroianni was out easily for the second out of the inning. One batter later, Mortimore got a strikeout to end the inning.

Hume, who is now 3-0 this year, worked a career high 5-1/3 innings and struck out a career high eight batters to put himself and the Rattlers in line for the win.

Dunigan gave Wisconsin another run in the top of the ninth with a solo homer to right field. It was his second home run in as many games and made the score 5-2.

Phillippe Aumont entered in the bottom of the seventh and pitched three scoreless innings to earn his first professional save. He walked two, struck out two, and did not allow a hit in his stint.

Wisconsin and Lansing conclude their three-game series on Saturday night. Michael Pineda (2-0, 0.75) is the scheduled starter for the Timber Rattlers. Brad Mills (1-1, 3.70) is set to start for the Lugnuts. Game time is 6:05pm CDT.
