Chiefs Lose Afternoon Tilt to Dayton 3-2

The Peoria Chiefs scored twice in the eighth, but lost to the Dayton Dragons 3-2 Tuesday afternoon in front of the 10th largest crowd in O'Brien Field history. The D.A.R.E. Day crowd of 7,869 fans saw the Chiefs rally late but a solo homer from Dayton's Brandon Waring in the ninth was the difference as Peoria left the tying run in scoring position as the game ended. Player of the Game - Nate Samson (SS) - Samson singled in the first and then drove home two runs in the eighth with a bases-loaded single. Nate finished the game 2-for-4 with both Chiefs RBI on the day.

Notes... Peoria turned their 30th and 31st double plays of the season which leads the MWL...The Chiefs have scored first in just seven of 24 games this season...Chiefs starter Hung-Wen Chen pitched a career-high 5 innings...Peoria leads the Midwest League in home runs allowed, having given up 20 so far this season...Josh Donaldson was intentionally walked, the first time a Chiefs batter has been intentionally walked all season...Leon Johnson and Marwin Gonzalez continued their seven-game hitting streaks...This is the 34th crowd over 7,000 in O'Brien Field history and the 37th in Chiefs history...The 7,869 total is the 10th largest in O'Brien Field history and the biggest of the 2008 season...The two teams will play a doubleheader on Wednesday evening beginning at 5:00 pm...In game one, the Chiefs will send RH Billy Muldowney (0-0, 0.00) to the mound for his first start of the season against RH Curtis Partch (0-3, 7.11) for the Dragons...Game two will feature RH Ryan Acosta (0-1, 2.75) for the Chiefs against RH Enerio Del Rosario (1-1, 1.65)...The game can be heard live beginning with the pre-game show at 4:45 PM online at www.peoriachiefs.com or on WOAM 1350 AM.
