
Quakes Snap Losing Streak With 8-4 Win Over Blaze

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- Rancho scored early and often to snap the longest losing streak in two seasons.
The Quakes jumped out on top early in the second inning on Tuesday night, plating two runs after a Drew Toussaint triple. Larry Infante singled home Toussaint and Brian Walker added an RBI double to score Infante to give the Quakes a 2-0 lead.
Bakersfield fought back in the top of the third after a lead off double by Grant Gerrard and a single by Chad Tracy, Mauro Gomez hit a ball into the hole between short and third and PJ Phillips tried to go to second for the force out, but threw the ball wide of second allowing Gerrard to score from third. Truan Mehl then singled on the infield to score Tracy and the score was tied 2-2.
Rancho would score another two runs in the bottom of the third, on an RBI double by Mark Trumbo and an RBI single by Toussaint to give the Quakes a 4-2 lead. They would add another in the fourth on an error by the Blaze shortstop Marcus Lemon to score Brian Walker from third.
In the seventh, the Quakes added some much insurance as they scored three with two outs on an RBI single by Abel Nieves and a two-run single by Walker to go ahead 8-3. Walker finished the night 3x4 with a double, a run scored and three RBI.
Tommy Mendoza got the win for the Quakes going five innings allowing two runs, one earned, on eight hits and struck out one to earn his first win of the season and snap the Quakes seven game losing streak.
The Quakes will send Amalio Diaz to the mound Wednesday against left-hander Kasey Kiker of the Blaze in game two of the series. Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm.
