Lancaster JetHawks News Release

LANCASTER, CA) - The threatening weather in Modesto held off long enough to get the game in. But while the rains stayed away, the JetHawks offense did as well. Lancaster managed just a lead-off home run from Jason Place as they lose the series opener to the Modesto Nuts 4-1.

Things looked good in the first inning. After Place homered to put the JetHawks up by a run, Jimmy James pitched a sharp opening frame. Undistracted by a leadoff infield single and stolen base, James retired the next three batters.

However, Modesto got to James in the second inning, using a pair of bloop hits to help push across two runs. They added another in the third and a final run in the ninth. The JetHawks had a chance to tie the game in the third inning. Matt Sheely and

Jason Place opened with singles, but Lancaster couldn't come up with a timely at bat, leaving Sheely stranded at third.

Place was the only Lancaster player with more than one hit. Chih-Hsien Chiang singled in his final chance at the plate to extend his hit streak to ten straight games. Richie Lentz kept the game close with two scoreless innings of relief.

The JetHawks continue their seven-game road trip Wednesday morning at Modesto. Chris Jones (1-1) will start for Lancaster against Nuts' pitcher Shane Lindsay (0-0).
