Snappers End Opening Homestand With Loss
April 6, 2008 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Beloit Sky Carp News Release
The Snappers never quite got into a rhythm during the entire series, and today was no different, as they fell to the Kane County Cougars by a final of 5-2. Starter Daniel Berlind picked up the loss for the Snappers, going three innings and allowing three runs.
Beloit struck first in the bottom of the first inning. Twins' 2006 second round draft pick Joe Benson scored from third on an RBI groundout by Garrett Olson. Benson's run gave the Snappers the quick 1-0 advantage.
Two innings later the Cougars put up a three-spot on the defending Midwest League Western Division Champs. The big hit came off the bat of first baseman Corey Brown, as he delivered a two-run double to center. Brown was followed by Greg Dowling, who delivered an RBI double of his own. Dowling's double gave Kane County a 3-1 lead after two and a half.
The Snappers drew to within one run in the bottom of the fourth inning on a Chris Parmelee homer to straight away center. Parmelee's homer was his second in as many days.
The Cougars got two more runs in the top of the ninth inning to give them a three-run cushion. Kane County held off a late Snapper threat and went on to win by a score of 5-2 and claim the four-game sweep.
Upcoming Schedule: Beloit will travel to Peoria, Illinois to take on the Chicago Cubs class A affiliate Peoria Chiefs. The Snappers will have right hander Brian Kirwan on the mound and Peoria will counter with left hander Zach Ashwood.
