Bees Lose Series Finale And Split with Peoria

Burlington, IA - The Burlington Bees opening weekend came to a conclusion on Sunday afternoon with the Bees losing to Peoria 3-2. With the loss, the two teams split the opening four game series. Both runs for Burlington came off the bat of Clint Robinson as he hit two solo homerun.

Peoria took the lead in the top of the first inning and never really looked back. With one out, Marquez Smith singled and then advanced to second on a ground out. Blake Lalli then came to the plate and hit his first homerun of the season to give the Chiefs a 2-0 lead. Peoria added a run in the fifth inning via a Marwin Gonzalez sacrifice fly that plated Cliff Anderson. Those would be the only runs the Chiefs would need.

The Bees finally got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning when Robinson led the inning off with one of his solo homeruns. The second came with one out in the bottom of the ninth.

Burlington received strong pitching once again. Alex Caldera pitched 5.1 innings and allowed three runs, two of which were earned, eight hits. Yensi Lopez and Ben Swaggerty combined to pitch 3.2 innings of scoreless baseball. Robinson was the only Bee to have more than one hit.

The Bees hit the road for the first time on Monday. Burlington wall travel to Kane County for a 3:00 game. Zach Peterson will pitch for the Bees and he will be opposed by Scott Mitchinson. The game can be heard tape delayed on 1490 KBUR and live at www.GoBees.com.
