Northern Colorado Owlz News Release

OREM, Utah (April 3, 2008) - Former Owlz closer Darren O'Day made his Major League debut on opening day for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He pitched a scoreless 8th inning allowing no runs with one strike out.

O'Day joins a long list of current Major League players who began their career in Utah County but is the first to have donned the Orem Owlz jersey to make the big leagues.

O'Day was signed as a free agent by Owlz manager Tom Kotchman. He appeared in 14 games during the 2006 season before being called up to Single-A Cedar Rapids. O'Day, a sidewinder from the University of Florida, saved seven games for the Owlz and was part of the top pitching staff in the Pioneer League.

After spending time in High-A Rancho Cucamonga and Double-A Arkansas in 2007, O'Day received an invite to attend the 2008 Angels spring training.

O'Day joins many former Owlz/Provo Angels players including Casey Kotchman, Erick Aybar, Joe Saunders, Reggie Willits, Ervin Santana and Howie Kendrick as members of the Angels Opening Day roster.

The Owlz season begins June 17th at 7:05 p.m. against the Ogden Raptors. Tickets can be purchased by calling 377-BALL.
