Colorado Rapids News Release

COMMERCE CITY, CO. - The Colorado Rapids today signed six-year MLS veteran defender Kelly Gray after he was waived by Los Angeles at the beginning of the month.

"Kelly knows how to win and his championship experience will benefit this team as we look to improve in 2008," said Head Coach Fernando Clavijo.

Gray was selected by Chicago in the first round (fifth overall) of the 2002 MLS SuperDraft and was with the Fire for the first three and a half years of his MLS career, helping them win the 2003 U.S. Open Cup and reach the MLS Cup that year, before being traded to San Jose in 2005.

The Portland University product remained with the franchise when it moved to Houston in 2006 and appeared in 18 games last season as he helped the Dynamo claim the MLS Cup. In 2007, Gray appeared in nine of the Dynamo's 14 games, collecting one assist, while starting four of his last five games with the Dynamo.

Gray will be available for the Rapids when they open their season against his former club, the Los Angeles Galaxy, in the season opener for both teams at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on March 29 at 7:30 p.m.

In other roster moves the Rapids also signed 2008 SuperDraft pick Scott Campbell. The Rapids also placed forward Conor Casey and defender Mike Petke on the disabled list. Casey and Petke will be available to return to the lineup on May 10 when the Rapids take on the Houston Dynamo. Goalkeeper Mike Graczyk was picked up as a league pool goalkeeper and will continue to train with Colorado.
