Sky Names Steven Key Head Coach And General Manager

CHICAGO, March 12, 2008 - The WNBA's Chicago Sky today announced that General Manager and Head Coach Bo Overton has resigned from the team, effective immediately. Steven Key, formerly assistant coach, has been named GM and head coach.

Key, 39, has been with the Sky since its inaugural season in 2006. He helped set up the organization, select talent and institute an aggressive, energetic style of play. He played an integral role in the team's dramatic improvement in its second season. The Sky nearly tripled the number of wins, finishing with a 14-20 record, and just missing a spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Prior to the Sky, Key was head coach for the Dusseldorf Magics, a professional men's team in Germany, for three years. He guided the team to a third place finish, improving from a fifth place finish the year before. Prior to coaching, he spent over 10 years as a professional basketball player in Europe. The 6'4" Key was a point guard at Boston University, where he played for Coach Mike Jarvis. He graduated from BU in 1990 with a B.A. in Public Relations.

"It has been a privilege to be involved with the Sky from beginning and I am excited to continue our building process," said Key. "The team made enormous strides in our second season and I have great respect for our athletes. They work hard both on the basketball court and in the community. I'm very enthusiastic about our future; with our current talent plus the number two pick in the rookie draft, the Sky is poised to reach new heights in 2008."

Coach Key is a native of Maryland. He, his wife Janka and their infant daughter reside in downtown Chicago.

The Sky is one of seven independently-owned teams in the WNBA, the world's longest-running women's professional sports league. The Sky celebrated its inaugural season in 2006, and finished a successful sophomore season with a 14-20 record and guard Armintie Price named WNBA Rookie of the Year. The team will have the number two pick in the 2008 WNBA Draft, which is expected to be one of the best rookie classes in WNBA history.
