Center Janel McCarville Agrees To Three-Year Contract Extension

New York Liberty President & General Manager Carol Blazejowski announced today that center Janel McCarville has agreed to a three-year contract extension. As per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

McCarville had a banner season in 2007, posting the best numbers of her professional career with 10.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game. In her first season in New York, she emerged as the Liberty's go-to player after improving her average of 5.7 points and 3.4 rebounds per game to 15.7 points and 6.3 rebounds following the All-Star break. She led New York in scoring a team-high 11 times and finished the regular season as the WNBA's No. 1 field goal shooter with a career-best 54.6 percent. Her stellar performances spanning the summer earned her the 2007 WNBA Most Improved Player award, making her the second Liberty player to achieve the honor.

A Wisconsin native, McCarville is currently playing in Slovakia for Kosice, averaging 16.2 points and 8.1 rebounds in Euroleague play. The Liberty acquired her from the Charlotte Sting in the 2007 WNBA Dispersal Draft with the third overall pick. Originally, she was selected by the Sting as the No. 1 overall pick of the 2005 WNBA Draft.

Tip off the twelfth WNBA season with McCarville and the Liberty on Sunday, May 18 at 4:00 p.m. against the Connecticut Sun at The Garden.
