SAINT JOHN, NB --- The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League announced today that this Sunday's Rogers Sportsnet CHL Game of the Week will feature the Saint John Sea Dogs' regular season finale - a road contest versus the Halifax Mooseheads.
The league and network had originally scheduled Sunday's Quebec vs. Chicoutimi game to be broadcast, but the compelling battle between Halifax, the top-ranked team in the QMJHL East, and Saint John, who currently occupy second-place in the division, was deemed by all parties involved to be of greater interest for the hockey-viewing public.
League officials viewed the fact that Sunday's match will potentially decide what team will end the season atop the East Division standings as an enticing factor in their decision to move forward with the broadcast.
Sunday's game will be shown on tape-delay starting at 8:00pm Atlantic Standard time, and can be seen locally on Rogers Cable channel 22.
This is the second time that Saint John has been featured in a nationally-televised game. On February 10, the Sea Dogs clinched their first-ever playoff berth with a 5-2 win over Drummondville at the Marcel Dionne Centre.
Last month's historic road victory marked the first time that a sports team from the city of Saint John had been featured on a high-profile stage of such magnitude, as hockey fans throughout Canada witnessed the Sea Dogs' impressive three-goal win over the Voltigeurs.
"We're thrilled to be featured on the CHL Game of the Week for a second time this season," said Sea Dogs President Wayne Long. "The team and the city of Saint John both received excellent national exposure during our first appearance on Sportsnet, and Sunday's broadcast will afford us even greater esteem."
