Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release
The MAINEiacs are back on the road this week to finish out the 2007-2008 season in Nova Scotia. Last week brought the MAINEiacs 6 out of 8 possible points, but left the MAINEiacs in the same place that they started. Lewiston remains in a tight battle for home ice advantage with Acadie-Bathurst. With last nights win over Moncton, Bathurst currently has sole possession of 4th place. This week's first game will be on Wednesday against the first place Halifax Mooseheads. Lewiston has won 3 out of 7 meetings this season with only one of them coming at the Metro Centre. The Mooseheads are 7-3-0-0 in their last 10, and those seven wins are against some of the toughest teams in the Q: Acadie-Bathurst, Cape Breton, and most notably Baie-Comeau. However, Lewiston has accounted for one of their losses. The MAINEiacs will most likely play Halifax in the later rounds of the playoffs, so this will be a good barometer of how the team has improved versus the Mooseheads.
The final two games of the regular season will bring the MAINEiacs to Cape Breton to face the third place Screaming Eagles. Cape Breton has stumbled as of late losing some key games and has slipped within striking distance for Lewiston and Acadie-Bathurst. The MAINEiacs have taken 3 out of 4 from the Eagles this season, the only loss coming in a shootout at the Colisee. These two games will be a great chance for the MAINEiacs to well position themselves for a successful playoff run.
Stefano Giliati is still on his quest to pass Mathieu Aubin for the titles of MAINEiacs all-time leading goal and points scorer. Giliati is still 3 goals and 3 points away from clinching the titles.
