New England Revolution News Release


FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution will train twice this week at the Dana Farber Field House at Gillette Stadium before departing on Thursday for a six-day training trip in New Orleans, La.

The Revs will practice at home on both Tuesday and Wednesday, and will then travel south for six days of training that will include two matches against Marathón of Honduras - a closed-door scrimmage on Friday evening and a full public match on Sunday. A full schedule for the next two weeks is below.

Media wishing to attend any session held at the Dana Farber Field House must notify the Revolution Communications office by the close of business the day before to RSVP and guarantee admittance. Media availability will begin at approximately 11:30 a.m. for both 10 a.m. sessions.

Tuesday, Mar. 18 - Travel to Boston REVOLUTION NEWS & NOTES Media Day Scheduled for Tuesday, March 25

The Revs will host their annual Media Day on Tuesday, March 25 ... the program will begin at noon and a light lunch will be served ... in addition to the Revs' players and coaches availability, Revolution Chief Operating Officer Brian Bilello and Director of Soccer Michael Burns will make brief statements and be available for questions ... additionally, Houston Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear and a Dynamo player are expected to be available for an exclusive teleconference ... all media interested in attending Media Day should inform the Revolution Communications office by the close of business on Monday, March 24.

New Orleans Plans Altered

The Revolution has changed its travel and competition plans for its final preseason trip to New Orleans this week ... instead of the original eight-day trip, the Revs will now take a six-day trek to the Big Easy with one public game and one closed-door scrimmage scheduled against reigning Honduran league champion Marathón ... after arriving on Thursday evening, the Revolution will play the closed-door scrimmage against Marathón at 6 p.m. at Tad Gormley Stadium ... on Sunday at 5 p.m., the teams will meet in a public clash of two of CONCACAF's top club teams ... New England is also scheduled to train on Saturday and Monday at 10 a.m., with both sessions scheduled for Tad Gormley Stadium ... the Revs will participate in another service afternoon with the St. Bernard Project on Monday, before returning to Boston on Tuesday.

Revs Move to 3-1 in 2008 Preseason

After earning a pair of victories on their first preseason trip to Bermuda, the Revs went 1-1 during their recent stay in Cancun, Mexico, to move to 3-1 overall this preseason ... in New England's first match south of the border, Mexican Segunda Division side Pioneros de Cancun took the lead in just the second minute, but Khano Smith scored twice and added an assist on Taylor Twellman's goal to give the Revs a comfortable 3-1 halftime advantage ... Kenny Mansally scored late on to give the Revolution a fourth en route to a 4-1 triumph ... two days later, the Revs took on reigning Mexican champion Atlante, falling for the first time this preseason, 1-0, in a heated match in Playa del Carmen.

Mansally Continues Scoring Tear

Kenny Mansally, who scored four goals in the Revs two matches in Bermuda, scored once more in Cancun to push his tally to a team-leading five this preseason ... the Gambian U-20 international started and played the full 90 minutes in the team's 4-1 win over Pioneros de Cancun, scoring the fourth goal in the 84th minute ... he also went the distance in the Revs' 1-0 loss to Atlante.

Smith Finds His Scoring Boots

Left-sided midfielder Khano Smith scored two goals and added an assist in the Revolution's 4-1 win over Pioneros de Cancun ... after the Revs went down 1-0 early, Smith scored the game-tying and game-winning goals in the 11th and 24th minutes, respectively ... he then assisted on Taylor Twellman's goal right before halftime.

Revs Announce Two Schedule Changes

It was announced on Monday, Mar. 10, that the Revolution's home game against the New York Red Bulls, originally scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 2, has been moved to Wednesday, June 18 ... the game will be televised on the Revs' regional television partner, TV38, at 7:30 p.m. ... additionally, the team announced that kickoff for its Sept. 11 match in Foxborough against Chivas USA has been moved up to 7 p.m. from 7:30 p.m. to accommodate ESPN2's programming schedule.

Countdown to First Kick Tour Wraps with Season Opener Approaching

The Revolution held its final three "Countdown to First Kick" events this past weekend, Mar. 8 and 9 ...the Revs visited the Mansfield SportsPlex in Mansfield, Mass., the Suburban Athletic Club in Framingham, Mass., and the South Shore Sports Center in Hingham, Mass. ... Revs players such as Taylor Twellman, Michael Parkhurst, Steve Ralston, Joe Franchino, Jeff Larentowicz and Chris Albright were in attendance at separate locations to sign autographs, answer fans' questions and demonstrate skills during clinics.

Revs Stand Pat at Waiver Draft

Major League Soccer's waiver draft came and went on Tuesday, Mar. 4, with the Revs opting to pass on selecting anyone with the 13th overall choice ... the only players picked in the draft were defenders Jeff Curtin (D.C. United) and Brandon Prideaux (Colorado) and former Revs forward Kyle Brown (Real Salt Lake). Fox Soccer Channel to Televise Season Opener

When the Revs host the Houston Dynamo in an MLS First Kick match on Saturday, March 29, Fox Soccer Channel will be the exclusive national television outlet for the game ... the game is a rematch of MLS Cup 2007, in which the Dynamo earned a 2-1 victory over the Revs to repeat as MLS champions ... the match on March 29 marks the first time that the Revolution has hosted a season-opening match in the club's now 13-year history.
