Thunder Front Office Members To "Read Across America"

February 28, 2008 - Eastern League (EL) Trenton Thunder

(Trenton, NJ) - The Trenton Thunder, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that eight staff members are participating in the National Education Association's "Read Across America" at schools in the Trenton area.

"Read Across America" is an annual event that serves as "a day to celebrate reading" at schools around the country. Thunder staff members will visit area schools as "guest readers" and will read a book to a class of elementary school children.

Ticket and Events Coordinator Adam Smedberg attended Crawford Rodriguez Elementary in Jackson on Wednesday. Baseball Operations and Accounting Manager, Jeff Hurley will attend Kuser Elementary in Hamilton, Production Assistant Greg Lavin will attend Chrichton Elementary in Browns Mill and Ticket & Event Coordinator Stephanie Bissell will visit Charles Street Elementary in Palmyra on Friday. On Monday, March 3, Media Relations Assistant Josh Landsburg will visit McKinley School in New Brunswick, Director of Public Relations Bill Cook will attend Parker Elementary in Trenton and Merchandise Assistant Caitlin Hyde will read at the Barnes & Noble in Princeton.

"Promoting literacy is something we have supported since day one here in Trenton, so to be such an active participant in 'Read Across America' is something we are happy to do each year," said Thunder General Manager Brad Taylor. "To have our front office staff volunteer to be part of this event speaks volumes about the character of people who make up the Thunder family."

The National Education Association's Read Across America program is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on or around Dr. Seuss's birthday. In cities and towns across the nation, teachers, teenagers, librarians, politicians, actors, athletes, parents, grandparents, and others develop NEA's Read Across America activities to bring reading excitement to children of all ages.

The Thunder will host the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees, the Triple A affiliate of the New York Yankees, in a special pre-season exhibition game at Waterfront Park in Trenton on April 1 at 7:05 PM. The Thunder will start the 2008 regular season on the road at Binghamton (NY Mets) on April 3. They will open the 2008 Home Season on April 10 against the Harrisburg Senators (Washington Nationals).

Tickets for all Thunder games are available through the Thunder Ticket Office at Waterfront Park by calling (609) 394-3300 or online at www.trentonthunder.com.
