Tri-City Americans News Release
KENNEWICK, WA - Don Nachbaur has seen a lot of games from behind the bench as Tri-City's head coach. However, it's hard to imagine he's seen a game where his team controlled the contest as much as the Tri-City Americans did on Sunday night.
Kruise Reddick registered two goals and Nachbaur collected career-win number 350 as the Tri-City Americans (14-5-0-0, 28 pts) cruised to a 5-1 victory over the Portland Winter Hawks (3-17-0-0, 6 pts) at Toyota Center in Kennewick. The Americans, who have won their last nine match-ups with the âHawks, outshot Portland 51 to 22 in route to the win. The victory also places Tri-City just three points behind first-place Spokane in the U.S. Division.
Near the midway point of the first period, Reddick put the Americans on the board first in the contest. Off a Colton Yellow Horn pass, Reddick beat Portland net minder, Jordan White, giving Tri-City the early 1-0 lead. For Yellow Horn, it was his first of four assists on the night. With 2:55 remaining in the first period, the lead grew to 2-0 as Blair Macaulay connected for his second goal of the season. Despite the two-goal deficit, the âHawks dodged several bullets in the first period that could have put the game well out of reach after one period of play.
In the second period, Reddick registered goal number two just 3:01 into the period. However, while on the power play with less than eight minutes remaining in the period, newly acquired and former American, Keith Voytechek, beat Tri-City goaltender Kyle Birch to make it a 3-1 game after two periods of play. But, the mark would be the only blemish on Birch's night, as the rookie goalie made 21 saves in picking up his third win of the season.
In the final period, Tri-City tacked on two more goals, as Shaun Vey and Johnny Lazo each recorded their ninth goal of the season, while on the power play, to increase the Americans' lead to 5-1. The Americans finished 2-for-7 on the power play, while Portland was 1-for-6 on the man-advantage. White capped a third-star night by stopping a career-high 46 saves in the loss.
The Americans will continue their long eight-game home stand on Wednesday, November 14, as the Prince George Cougars make their first of two appearances at the Toyota Center in Kennewick. Tri-City and split their first two games of the four-game series with Prince George back in early October. Game time is 7:05 PM. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster outlets, including the Toyota Center box office, all Fred Meyer locations, or online at ticketmaster.com. And, as always, the game will be broadcast live on NewsTalk 870 AM, starting with the Budweiser Warm-Up show at 6:45 PM.
