The Springfield Cardinals had their second offensive explosion in the last eight days, pounding the Arkansas Travelers by a final score of 16-0 on Sunday night in North Little Rock.

Springfield established several offensive highs back on August 19th, in a 17-10 win over the Corpus Christi Hooks. Sunday's action saw plenty of hitting, although the Cards fell one run and one hit shy of tying franchise records established in that game in Corpus Christi.

Rico Washington had four of Springfield's 19 hits and Mark Hamilton had five RBIs to lead the way for the Redbirds (32-29), who are now 1 1/2 games in front of Arkansas (30-30) at the top of the Second Half North Division Standings.

Cards' starter P.J. Walters turned in another sharp performance, firing seven shut-out innings to help the Cards record back-to-back shutouts for the first time ever, their eighth shut-out of the year. Walters (3-3) scattered six hits, while striking out four and walking two.

Springfield got three in the first, as Colby Rasmus got it started with his league-leading 26th homer of the year just two pitches into the game. Washington then drove home Cody Haerther with his first hit of the game, making it 2-0. Bryan Anderson's sac fly made it 3-0 against Travs' starter Robert Mosebach.

Mosebach gave up an unearned run in the second, then surrendered a two-run single to Hamilton in the third, as the Cards went up 6-0. Jose Martinez picked up an RBI single in the fourth, putting the Cards up 7-0.

Mosebach (0-1) ended up allowing a total of seven runs and 11 hits over six innings in his Texas League debut.

Hamilton's two-run homer in the seventh made it 9-0 against Travs' reliever Chris Hunter.

Springfield piled on with a seven-run eighth inning to cap the scoring.

Matt Scherer and Chris Russ each worked a scoreless frame to keep the shut-out intact. The Cards' pitching staff has now thrown 18 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings.

The Redbirds will look to make it three straight over the Travs on Monday night, in the final regular season road game of the year. Eric Haberer (12-7) will go for the Cards, while the Texas League's ERA leader, Miguel Gonzalez (7-3) will throw for Arkansas. Game time from Dickey-Stephens Park is 7:10pm.

The Springfield Cardinals are at Hammons Field on Tuesday for the final seven home games of the regular season. On Tuesday night, one lucky fan 21 and over will win a free 50-Inch Flat Screen TV thanks to Hardee's!

Due to the cancelled game between the Springfield Cardinals and the Tulsa Drillers, tickets from the August 24th, 2007 game may be exchanged for a ticket to any remaining regular season game during the 2007 season or any regular season game during the 2008 season (subject to availability). In addition, due to the limited number of games remaining in the 2007 season, the Cardinals will allow ticket holders to apply their rainout tickets from the August 24th game toward the purchase of a ticket to the 2007 Texas League playoffs. The Texas League playoffs begin at Hammons Field on September 5th, 2007. Thanks again for your patience during Friday's rained-out game.

Tickets must be mailed or presented in person to the Gate 1 Ticket Office in order to receive tickets to another game. Complimentary tickets are not exchangeable.
