The Carolina RailHawks guarantee "Victory" on Friday night August 3rd as they host the California Victory at SAS Soccer Park at 8:00 PM. In the event the Railhawks loose or tie to California all fans attending the match can redeem their ticket stubs at the SAS Soccer Park Box Office for a free ticket to the US Open Cup quarter final match against the Richmond Kickers on Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at 7:35 PM. One free ticket with each ticket stub redeemed.
This will be the first time the two 2007 expansion teams meet and it is an important match for playoff position. Both teams are tied for tenth place with the RailHawks having the advantage of having played three less games. Friday night's game will give the Carolina RailHawks some national exposure as it will be broadcast live on Fox Soccer Channel as the USL game of the week.
The California Victory are led by forwards Josh Hansen and Yuri Morales who, combined, have scored eleven of California's 16 goals. They have won some key matches this year including an epic battle against Montreal at Sherbrooke this past month.
"This is an important game for us," said RailHawks head coach Scott Schweitzer. "The California Victory are a hot club right now and the only other expansion team in the league. We are both fighting for points to get in the playoffs and we will we must take home the three points."
The RailHawks will be returning from a match in Montreal Wednesday night and will be looking to bounce back from a very difficult month of July. This will be a true test for Carolina as they must add to the win column. Their new acquisition, Joel Bailey will be on hand to help the RailHawks obtain a positive result.
"Friday's game against Carolina in the battle of the new franchises is a must win game for us," said Victory head coach Glenn Van Straatum. "We intend to stay in the hunt for a playoff spot and need all the points we can get at home or on the road. We are aware, however, that the RailHawks are a hard team to beat at home and we are ready for the challenge"
The Carolina RailHawks have partnered with Second Chance Animal Rescue for the last four home games of the season. All fans are encouraged to bring pet food and toys to support this great organization. They may drop their items at the box office in order to receive a free game day program.
