Volcanoes Shut Out Hawks

The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes scored five runs in the second inning on Friday night and, behind a strong pitching performance by T.J. , Brewer and two relievers, shut out the Boise Hawks, 8-0.

Volcanoes right fielder Sean VanEldren continued his strong series with a key 2-run double in the second inning when Salem-Keizer scored five times off Boise starter Andrew McCormick. Left fielder Garrett Baker had three hits including a second inning double and a lost-in-the-lights triple in the ninth inning. The Volcanoes had 11 hits overall, seven off the starter McCormick.

Chris Siegfried pitched an inning and a third of shutout ball, as did Jordan Latham who threw three scoreless frames. Audi Santana allowed one run in two innings of work due to the triple lost in the lights in the ninth inning.

The Hawks could not get anything going on offense against T.J. Brewer who went the first five innings for the win allowing three hits. Steve Edlefsen and Eric Stolp each pitched two innings with Stolp giving up an eighth inning single. The pitchers were aided by three double plays turned by the Volcanoes infield. The Hawks did not get a runner to second base all night.

The series concludes Saturday night as the Hawks send Dustin Sasser to the mound against Salem Keizer's Jared Cranston. Game time at Memorial Stadium in Boise is 7:15 p.m.
