Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

Brad Furnish tossed six two-hit innings to earn his first win of the season in his last start of the first half, leading the Swing of the Quad Cities to a 5-1 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Thursday evening at John O'Donnell Stadium.

Quad Cities (37-29) remained in the playoff picture with just three games left before the All-Star break, but needs to win out and get some help to qualify for the post-season. Wisconsin (19-46) managed just five hits against Swing pitching as the two squads split the series.

Furnish (1-3) carried a perfect game into the fifth inning on Thursday, allowing just two hits and no runs over a season-high six innings of work. The southpaw, who was selected in the second round of the 2006 draft, needed just 60 pitches to blaze through the Timber Rattlers lineup, striking out one without issuing a walk.

The Swing offense got him the lead in the fourth. After Nathan Adcock opened his start with three hitless innings, Daryl Jones tagged him for a leadoff double in the bottom of the fourth. Jaime Landin followed with an RBI-single and later scored on a double by Brandon Buckman, giving Quad Cities a 2-0 advantage.

The score was 2-1 in the bottom of the eighth, when a two-out rally put the game out of reach. With the bases empty and two away Buckman drew a walk and Chris Grossman singled him to second. That set the stage for Luke Gorsett to jack his third homer of the year off the black chain link fence atop the left field berm, extending the lead to 5-1.

Tyler Herron (1) tossed the last three innings of the contest to earn his first professional save. The 20-year-old righty from Florida allowed one unearned run on three hits, fanning four without issuing a walk.

The tough-luck loss went to Adcock (1-6), who went seven strong innings while allowing two runs on six hits. He struck out five without issuing a walk, setting down the side in order in three of his seven frames.
