On the Road

Round Rock hit the road Tuesday for a 12-game swing through Fresno, Sacramento and Oklahoma City before returning to The Dell Diamond on June 11.

Other than the Win-Loss column, the road hasn't been such a bad spot for Round Rock. The pitching staff has allowed fewer runs per nine innings (4.23 opposed to 4.32) away from The Dell Diamond, but the team has been outscored 98-90 over the stretch, dropping 13 of its 21 road games thus far.

Of all active Express hitters, Eric Bruntlett leads the charge with a .302 batting average on the road. Brooks Conrad's five homers leads the power portion of the offense. Right-hander Chad Reineke is the only Round Rock pitcher with more than one road win.

Wrapping up the month of May, Round Rock is hitting .259 with 123 runs, 52 doubles and 30 home runs. Eric Bruntlett is batting .337 with six doubles and nine RBI; Jesse Garcia hit .313 and Eric Munson batted .310. Cody Ransom drove in 22 runs with 25 hits and Mark Saccomanno belted seven home runs.

Player Moves

Aside from Jason Jenning's 3 1/3 inning spot-start over the last homestand, the Express has welcomed three pitchers in the last four days. Right-handers Matt Albers and Josh Miller were added to the roster over the weekend, and left-hander Mark McLemore rejoined the team from Houston on Wednesday.

Albers is 1-2 with a 7.00 earned-run average over four outings with the Express. The Houstonian posted a 1-4 record with a 6.35 ERA in seven starts with Houston.

Miller, added from Double-A Corpus Christi, allowed just one run over seven innings in his Triple-A debut with Round Rock on May 27. Facing Memphis, he scattered five hits and mixed in three strikeouts.

McLemore is 0-1 with a 1.94 ERA as a reliever and spot-starter for Round Rock. He worked six innings without allowing an earned run in his last Triple-A outing, striking out a season-high 11 batters against Memphis.

Recent Headlines

Barzilla Named PCL POTW - Left-hander Philip Barzilla picked up two wins last week, stretching his winning streak to four games and improving his record to a Round Rock-best 6-1. With the effort, the Rice alum was named the Pacific Coast League's Pitcher of the Week. Barzilla went 2-0 with and allowed just one run in each of his two starts on the week, giving up nine hits in 14 innings of work. A native of Sugar Land, Texas, Barzilla is in his seventh professional season with the Houston Astros organization.

Barzilla is the first Express player to receive PCL Player or Pitcher of the Week honors this season. For more on Barzilla, click here.

McLemore Added to Astros' Roster: Over the last three seasons, reliever and spot-starter Mark McLemore has quietly and steadily carved out a 2.62 earned-run average. On Thursday, the last three years paid off. McLemore, 26, was called up by the Houston Astros before Round Rock's game against Iowa at The Dell Diamond, marking the 17th transaction of the season for the Express.

A fourth round selection by Houston in the 2002 draft, McLemore has been nothing short of steady, finding success at each level of the Astros' farm system. In 2005, he posted a 2.81 ERA in 15 starts with Double-A Corpus Christi, earning Texas League All-Star honors.
