Potomac Nationals News Release
WOODBRIDGE, Va - The Potomac Nationals have announced that Gene Yost, left-handed pitcher formerly of low-A Hagerstown, has been called up and placed on the Potomac 25-man roster.
Yost, selected in the 20th round of the 2004 First-Year Player Draft, was 1-1 with Hagerstown this season with a 12.46 ERA in four appearances, totaling 4 1/3 innings.
A graduate of Averett (VA) University, Yost went 6-1 in 11 games with the GCL Nationals in his initial campaign of 2004, starting four games with a 3.79 ERA. Yost was then promoted to Brevard County where he appeared in one game to close out the year.
Yost's 2005 season was split between Savannah and Vermont - the left-hander appeared in eight games for Savannah in relief, with a 2.63 ERA and was then promoted to Vermont, where he started fourteen games, going 6-5 with a 3.25 ERA, with a complete game shutout.
Yost returned to Savannah for the duration of the 2006 season, appearing in 33 games, starting ten. He went 7-5 with a 3.83 ERA and was credited with the only save of his career.
Yost takes the place of Nationals catcher Brian Peacock, who is on the disabled list after a brawl last week in Winston-Salem. Peacock has three hairline fractures in his vertebrae. The prognosis is for Peacock to miss at least one month with the injuries.
