Tri-City Storm News Release
KEARNEY - The Tri-City Storm of the United States Hockey League was named the "Marketer of the Year" on Tuesday by the University of Nebraska at Kearney's chapter of the American Marketing Association.
The UNK organization, who is participating in AMA week Feb. 19-23, presented the award Tuesday to the Storm front office including vice president of operations, Greg Shea, and director of marketing, Scott Trautman.
"The Tri-City Storm Hockey organization has used creative ideas to position the team, generate fan interest and give back to the people in the region," said Marsha Yeagley, AMA faculty advisor. "Storm Hockey was presented with a plaque to recognize them for their creative and effective marketing tactics."
Some of the Storm's notable marketing events include the "Take School By Storm" rally, the "Skaters as Waiters" charity event, "Reading Up A Storm" and the recently held United Way jersey auction. The jersey auction has helped raise $100,000 in the program's seven-year existence.
"Our marketing successes have been based on tremendous community support, corporate partnerships and other relationships we have been able to develop," said Shea.
The American Marketing Association helps students apply what they have learned in classes, network and gain a better understanding of the marketing opportunities in the work place. The AMA defines marketing as an organizational function and a set of processes for creating, communication and delivering value to customers and for managing customer relationships in ways that benefit the organization and its stakeholders.
