The Metro Sports Foundation along with representatives from Fargo Youth Icemakers, Fargo Parks, Fargo Public Schools, and the United States Hockey League officially announce details of the Urban Plains Center & Tournament Facility, future Fargo USHL team and Head Coach Dean Blais.
The Urban Plains Center will be located on 15 acres of land just north of 32nd Avenue and west of the Urban Plains Park. Construction of the $44 million project will begin this spring and is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2008. Facility Information: Five (5) arenas; Thirty-seven (37) locker rooms; Forty (40) luxury suites; 300 club seats; Main arena capacities will be approximately 6,000 for Basketball/Volleyball and 5,000 for Hockey; One tournament facility will seat approximately 2,000 for Basketball/Volleyball and 1,600 for Hockey; The other three will seat approximately 800. Permanent tenants of the facility will be Fargo Youth Hockey, Fargo Public Schools and Shanley Hockey along with the new USHL team.
The United States Hockey League has accepted a franchise application from Urban Plains Center and the Fargo group will join the league for the 2008-2009 season. The team will host approximately thirty (30) regular season home games with the possibility of home playoff games as well. Dean Blais has signed a long term contract to coach the new Fargo USHL team which will commence in July of 2007. Blais' first priorities will be selecting the other members of his coaching staff and team personnel along with coordinating the schedule for the 2008-2009 inaugural season.
