Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

HARLINGEN, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings re-signed shortstop Omar Bramasco, one of the team's most valuable players last year who has extensive experience in affiliated baseball, general manager Cory Dirksen and field manager Eddie Dennis announced Tuesday.

"We are very fortunate to get him back for another year, because I felt he was going to get picked up by an organization,'' WhiteWings manager Eddie Dennis said. "He was the best shortstop in our league last year. Scouts believe if a spot opens up in A or AA ball anywhere, he can come in and feel their needs immediately.''

Bramasco, who will be 26 in 2007, had a .286 batting average with a .402 on-base percentage in 76 games for the WhiteWings last season. In his first season for the WhiteWings, Bramasco proved time and time again that he was Mr. Clutch, coming up with key hits in key situations.

"I was very excited to hear that Omar re-signed with the team," Wings teammate Bub Bergstrom said. "He not only is a team leader on the field, but off the field as well. Talent wise, he can 'pick it' with the best off them, and can play with an organization today."

Bramasco was originally drafted in the 16th round of the 2002 amateur draft by the Philadelphia Phillies. He played four years in the Phillies organization, making it as high as Double-A Reading. Bramasco's combined totals after five years in the minors: .234 career batting average, a .343 on-base percentage, and 188 walks in 407 games.

The signing of Bramasco continues the Wings recent flurry of moves to improve last year's roster. Two weeks ago, catcher Ryan Kottke was drafted with the first overall pick in the 2007 United League Baseball draft. Kottke is second in RBI's in the Texas Winter League with 12 RBIs in 18 games. Last week, the Wings re-signed left-hander Joe Rogers, the team's best pitcher in 2006.

The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings are one of six teams in the independent United League, which begins its second season in 2007. The Wings open their season at home on Tuesday, March 8 against Amarillo. Other teams in the ULB are Laredo, San Angelo, Amarillo, Edinburg, and Alexandria, La.
