
Laredo remains alive

HARLINGEN, Texas -- Jesse Hendriksen pitched his second straight complete game while and kept the Laredo Broncos chance at a playoff berth alive Tuesday with a 4-2 victory over the Edinburg Coyotes here at Harlingen Field in the Texas Winter League.
Hendriksen (3-1) went seven innings allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits, while striking out six and walking only one batter. Edinburg starter Rosalio Rosales went five strong innings, allowing two runs on three hits, but did not factor in the decision.
Eduardo Garcia (0-1) took the loss for the Coyotes. Garcia relieved Rosales in the sixth inning, allowing two runs on three hits after Edinburg had tied the game in the bottom half of the fifth inning on a double steal from Gilbert Ramon and Marshall Deal.
Joe Cuellar came up with a big two-out, two-run single in the top half of the sixth inning to give Laredo the lead for good. Josh Ashton continued to swing the bat well for the Broncos, going 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Brooks Purdy was 2-for-3 with a run scored the lead Edinburg . The Coyotes had opportunities in the third, fourth, and fifth innings, but could only manage two runs off Hendriksen.
Laredo improved to 8-11 and keeps their bleak playoff chances alive with the win. Edinburg fell to 5-14.
