Sacred Heart Southern Missions to be highlighted Friday night

SOUTHAVEN, MS --- Friday, January 19, as the RiverKings take on the Odessa Jackalopes at 7:05pm at the DeSoto Civic Center, The Sacred Heart Southern Missions will be the nights' featured non-profit.
Sacred Heart Southern Mission is a Roman Catholic organization striving to extend the reign of God in nine Northern Mississippi counties. Through presence and compassion in parish, education, housing and social ministries, the Sacred Heart Southern Missions is present throughout DeSoto, Tunica, Tate, Marshall, Tippah, Alcorn, Prentiss and Tishomingo Counties.
Sacred Heart School, first opened in Walls, Mississippi and is now located in Southaven, Mississippi. The school is an intricate part of the Sacred Heart Southern Mission. Currently 325 students are enrolled within the Pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade school. While education within Sacred Heart School is based on Roman Catholic beliefs, more than a quarter of the students attending the school are not Catholic.
This is the second year that Sacred Heart Southern Missions has been a featured non-profit at the RiverKings game. "Last year we had such a wonderful time," said Steve Koepke, Director of Sacred Heart League. "We had a good turn out and everyone there enjoyed the game and the time together as a school community."
"This year we hope to once again bring together our school community and school spirit," said Koepke. "This is a great experience for us to share."
Mr. Ken Sanders, teacher at Sacred Heart School, will be dropping the ceremonial puck prior to the face off on Friday night. Sacred Heart teacher Sister Margaret Sue Broker will be riding the zamboni during second intermission.
"Our partnership with the RiverKings helps increase school spirit and brings together our families into a school community," said Koepke.
