Rampage rally falls short

December 26, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL) - San Antonio Rampage News Release

SAN ANTONIO - The Rampage clawed their way back from a 2-0 deficit to extend the game to a shootout earning them a point in a 3-2 loss against the Houston Aeros at the Toyota Center Tuesday night. Jeff Taffe recorded the game-tying goal with two seconds left in regulation sending the game to overtime while Pascal Rheaume recorded a goal and an assist in his 800th Professional game.

Aeros' defenseman Ryan Stokes put the first dent in the scoreboard seven minutes into the initial period. About ten minutes later, Danny Irmen was awarded a penalty shot against Josh Tordjman but came up empty handed.

Matt Foy stretched the Aeros lead to 2-0 with a power-play goal 1:39 into the second period. About six minutes later, Rheaume capitalized on Eric Reitz' kneeing penalty for a power-play goal cutting the deficit in half. Keith Yandle and Yanick Lehoux were credited with the assists on Rheaume's sixth goal of the season.

After Taffe's goal in the last ticks of regulation, the Rampage only took one shot in overtime and held off the Aeros to force a five-round shootout.

The Rampage host the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the AT&T Center.
