Tim Johnson selected American Association Manager of the Year

DURHAM, NC--The American Association announced today that Lincoln Saltdogs manager Tim Johnson has been named Manager of the Year, as voted upon by the ten field managers and media.
Johnson, 57, is in his fourth year as the skipper of Lincoln. He led the Saltdogs to their first ever division titles and second straight playoff berth. He has guided them to a team best 64-31 mark and the league's best hitting (.306) and pitching (3.54 ERA). Johnson also served as manager for the American Association All-Star team, leading them to a 5-3 win over the Can-Am League All-Stars in El Paso, TX.
This season was Johnson's 40th year in professional baseball, a career that saw him reach the big leagues as both a player and a manager. The Grand Forks, ND native was a shortstop for the Milwaukee Brewers and Toronto Blue Jays from 1973 until 1979. Following his playing career, Johnson coached in the major leagues with the Montreal Expos and Boston Red Sox. In 1998, he got his first big league managerial position with the Toronto Blue Jays. He led the Jays to an 88-74 record which continues to be the team's best record since their World Championship season of 1993.
