SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced that the club has signed Spokane Chiefs defenseman Matthew McCue to an NHL Amateur Tryout Agreement.
McCue is scheduled to participate with Sharks rookie players in the "Pacific Division Shootout" against the top prospects from the Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks and Phoenix Coyotes. The tournament, hosted this year by Los Angeles, is scheduled for Sept. 8-12 in El Segundo, Calif.
"We've spent a lot of time watching Matthew and are excited to have him join us for the Pacific Division Shootout," said Wilson. "His progress and success are a testament to the excellent program run by Head Coach Bill Peters and the entire Spokane Chiefs organization."
McCue spent last season with the Spokane Chiefs recording 15 points (five goals, 10 assists) in 56 games.
He was drafted by the Spokane Chiefs in the 2nd round (27st Overall) in the 2003 WHL Bantam Draft.
